A how to book about making it through a bad time in life isn't what I usually review. I decided to do this one for of a couple of reasons. The first was my own experience of a failed marriage, and now having celebrated my twentieth wedding anniversary in another. The other was I was asked if I would consider reading it because of what I have gone through.
It can be hard to relate our bad past experiences in a way that doesn't sound like ranting or wanting to lay blame on someone or something else. For myself, it took years before I could talk about what I went through in my first marriage without diving down into my black emotions. Michael Glassford does a great job of relating his own experiences as well as those of others he has worked with in his law practice.
The information is handled with class. The stories are shared in a way that a reader can learn from them. He points out a divorce is a messy situation, even the cleanest of them. There are problems that arise before, during, and after that can be avoided or mitigated with the practical advice he shares.
This goes deeper than how to hire and work with an attorney. In You Failed at Marriage, Don't Fail at Divorce he clearly talks about what a person needs to consider and be doing before the legal system ever gets involved. Michael even touches on the simple facts of deciding if what you want to do - get divorced or reconcile.
The advice continues after the decision has been made. It also gives solid understanding of things to do after the divorce has been finalized by the courts. He makes a clear statement of understanding that because the marriage and divorce was part of your past, it is now a part of you.
I understand and appreciate what Michael Glassford has presented in his book. Even after all of the years since my own divorce became finalized, there are memories that still come back to me that I must revisit and work through.
This is a book for anyone who is dealing with a marriage ending in divorce or looks to be headed in that direction. It is also great information if you have made it through a divorce and are looking forward again in your life, on your own, with children, or with a new family.

Love found Michael S. Glassford in the back of his seventh grade English class. No, it wasn't the redhead with the cute ringlets near the front, he was too shy for that. Writing was his mistress, his dirty little secret. Now Michael speaks and educates about legal life planning by day and writes his stories by night. Whether he is speaking, producing award-winning pirate tales, or cautionary divorce self-help books, he uses his practical legal magic to entertain and educate.
Michael's firm Legal Ink, LLC, is a life planning law firm, aka estate planning. He works with clients to preserve their story and plan a happily ever after. Live well, pass on abundance.
As an editor, Michael breathes life into words. He serves as a content editor for Rockwood Editing, Precision Editing Group, and Eschler Editing, helping authors find the magic in their story.
